OKLAHOMA CITY – The man arrested for a double murder inside a day care has confessed to police.
Quinton Laster was arraigned on two counts of murder Thursday.
He’s accused of killing his own grandparents.
Laster is on suicide watch at the Oklahoma County jail.
We now know, in his interview with homicide detectives, that he fully confessed to murdering his own family by, first, shooting them and, then, cutting their heads off.
His name is the only thing 20-year-old Laster said from jail Thursday.
He showed no emotion as the judge arraigned him on two counts of first degree murder.
He’s accused of killing his own grandparents, Sharon and J.R. Reed.
For Reed’s family, faith is holding them together.
Brenda Jackson is Sharon’s sister.
She walked through the crime scene Wednesday, and what she saw was haunting.
“It was bloody,” Jackson said. “But, Sharon – it was terrible in her bathroom where she was. It was just terrible.”
Laster had been living with Sharon and J.R. for more than a year after Brenda says Laster’s mother kicked him out for doing drugs.
Now, she hopes the DA seeks the death penalty against her nephew.
“I don’t think he should live. I really don’t,” Jackson said. “And, I don’t care what nobody else thinks about it. I don’t think he should live after what he did.”
Right now, Laster is on a level 2 suicide watch.
Jailers are checking on him about every 15 minutes.
Court documents show Laster confessed to the brutal murders in his police interview.
His family has just one question for him: Why?
“That’s the thing I’m going to ask him as soon as we have the funeral,” Jackson said. “I told his mother we’ll go downtown and we’ll see him, and I want to know why. I want to see if he has any remorse.”
The judge denied bond for Laster.
The district attorney has not filed formal charges against him yet.
Family members told us they’re going to the funeral home tomorrow to make arrangement for the services.
