OKLAHOMA - A Little Axe fire investigation has turned into a suspicious death investigation.
Cleveland County sheriff’s officials tell us Cody Wayne Fish has been arrested on a count of arson.
The arrest is in connection with a deadly fire Monday night.
Friends tell NewsChannel 4 the victim was Cody’s wife, Brandi Fish.
However, the sheriff’s office has not released the victim’s name.
Cody is now being held at the Cleveland County jail.
The fire started Monday night at a home on Carnegie Circle in Little Axe.
“As firefighters, we're extinguishing the blaze," said Meghan McCormick, with the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office. "They found a body.”
Sheriff's deputies say it was a woman's body found inside.
Cody was arrested that night on an outstanding warrant, but he is now in custody accused of arson.
“We were told Mr. Fish and his wife lived in the home," McCormick said. "They came across someone walking down the road, and it was Cody Fish.”
While officials have not released the victim's name, multiple friends tell us it was Brandi who died in the fire.
Court records show the couple was married and that at least two protective orders had been filed by Brandi against Cody.
One in 2013 was dismissed.
Another in 2014 was granted.
Cleveland County officials say they are familiar with Cody.
“He has been arrested in the past," McCormick said. "He has been in the Cleveland County Detention Center on previous occasions.”
While he is currently being held for arson, officials say they believe Cody will likely face more charges in the days to come.
As for the victim, the sheriff’s office says they are waiting on the Medical Examiner to identify the person found dead in the home and to determine and exact cause of that person’s death.
