OKLAHOMA CITY -- A southwest Oklahoma City neighborhood is on alert after a 76-year-old man was attacked and robbed in his own garage.

"You can't see laying face down on the concrete," a bloodied D.G. Mooney said after the crime.

That made it difficult for Mooney to get a good look at the person who had just beaten him Tuesday night at his home.

He's lived in the 2600 block of S.W. 81st St. for nearly 50 years and had the garage door open on a hot summer night while cleaning up his workshop
All of a sudden, he was struck several times in the head from behind and knocked to the ground.

"It was a shock. I was struck extremely hard," Mooney said. "I looked up at him when he kept hollering 'give me the money, give me the money!'"

Mooney didn't know what money he was talking about.

Soon, he was also being kicked on the ground and eventually found himself bleeding from his elbow and his mouth.

He also sustained bruises on his head.

"He was just 'pow', just over and over and over," Mooney said while reenacting the attack with his fists. "He didn't even give you time to get the money. He just kept on beating."

Police said the only suspect description Mooney gave was a 6-foot-tall black male in his early twenties, weighing about 170 pounds.

Mooney's hearing aid and glasses were knocked off during the attack and his wallet was taken.

His wife was inside and didn't hear the attack until it was over.

"I told her to call the police, hurry up," he recalled. "I need to go back and get the blood up off the carpet, you know? I was bleeding pretty bad."

Mooney had his credit cards, driver's license and medical insurance card in his wallet that was stolen.

The suspect was last seen running toward S.W. 82nd St.

Call police with any information.
