COLBERT, Okla. – Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left one man dead on Saturday night.

Around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, an officer spotted a man walking in town.

The officer ran a check on the man and realized he had several traffic warrants for his arrest.

When the officer tried to arrest 24-year-old Christopher Lynn Nichols, authorities say he ran.

A short distance away, the two began scuffling and Nichols ended up on top of the officer.

Authorities say Nichols was hitting the officer in the face when the officer pulled out his gun and shot Nichols several times.

Nichols was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later died.

Now, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting and will hand over its findings to the district attorney.
