OKLAHOMA CITY — Police are investigating after a man wearing a monkey mask robbed a smoke shop and held the clerk at gunpoint.

It happened on Monday at Remington Discount Tobacco at N.E. 50th and Martin Luther King.

According to police, the clerk was helping a customer at the drive through. When she turned around, she noticed a hooded subject at the register.

"He was armed with a gun, and he was wearing a mask and a hoodie,” said MSgt. Gary Knight with the Oklahoma City Police Department.

The clerk told officers the suspect was wearing a monkey mask and gloves.

The suspect allegedly pointed a gun at him and said “Give me all your money, or I’ll shoot you.”

"The clerk complied with his demands. The suspect then fled the scene,” Knight said.

The suspect allegedly got away with a boatload of cash after clearling the register.

It was a startling close call and one example why some businesses around the metro are kindly asking customers to leave the masks at home this Halloween.

"It's never a good idea to walk into a business, especially a convenience store or some place like that, wearing a mask of any kind, even if you're just going in there after a party or something,” Knight said.
