The cause of a deadly Marine accident in western Nevada remains under investigation.

Military officials said seven Marines were killed and at least seven others injured when a mortar accidentally exploded during a training exercise.

A Marine spokesman said the dead would be identified publicly 24 hours after their next of kin were notified.

The accident comes a week after a U.S. military plane assigned to a Washington State naval air station crashed during a routine training flight, killing all three crew members on board
