OKLAHOMA CITY – The medical examiner’s office has confirmed 16 people are dead after Friday night’s storms.

Officials said they were killed by the tornado directly or they drowned.

The M.E. said many people drowned while seeking shelter from the tornadoes in storm drains.

A handful of people are still listed as missing at this point.

The flooding waters were dangerous.

Cars were being swept away as drivers drove into rising waters and were trapped inside their vehicles.

Officials are only beginning to assess the damage but said they expect the totals to be in the millions.
