OKLAHOMA CITY — A young Oklahoma City father is facing a charge of child abuse.

He’s accused of critically injuring his infant son.

The 2-month-old boy was at home with his parents at their apartment in the 6900 block of Lyrewood Lane.

The mother told police she left the baby with the father while she took a shower.

She said she heard the baby crying but said that wasn’t unusual.

“She said that when she got out of the shower, she noticed that the baby was yellowish or whitish in color.  It made her uncomfortable.  She noticed that something was probably wrong with the child and immediatley took the child over to the hospital,” OKC Police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow said.

The baby’s parents took him to the hospital where he was initially pronounced dead but was then revived.

He was transferred to another hospital on a ventilator.

Nurses at the first hospital called police.

“According to the nurse, he had bruising on the side of his head and also what appeared to be a bite mark on one of his arms,” Sgt. Wardlow said.

Police arrested the baby’s father, 20-year-old Charles Whitlow.

He proudly displayed photos of the baby boy and identified him as Corbin Michael Whitlow on his Facebook page.

People at the parents’ apartment complex were saddened by the news.

“It’s really sad and it hurts my heart to see, hear that this has happened to this child and I pray the child recovers,” Gloria Huffman said, who was visiting a friend next door.

Police said, if the baby dies, the charge against Whitlow will be amended to murder.
