OKLAHOMA CITY - A metro family is on the verge of winning a national contest but they need your help.

Macie Greene, 9, was diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder called Rett Syndrome when she was 18 months old.

"Macie can't walk. She can't talk. She cannot eat by mouth except she eats formula and she drinks from a bottle," Macie's mom, Brenda Greene, said.

Macie's dad is an Oklahoma City police officer who also works extra jobs so Brenda can stay home with Macie.

Brenda said getting Macie to doctor's appointments is becoming increasingly difficult.

"I thought I could continue lifting her. I thought I was superwoman or something. I don't know. But the last couple years, she's had a growth spurt," Brenda said.

The Greenes became very discouraged when they looked into purchasing a handicap accessible van.

"To get a handicap accessible van that is new would be anywhere from 40, 50 even up to $60,000," Macie's dad, Mike Greene, said.

Brenda found a contest online and entered by submitting a video.

The National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association is giving away three vans.

The Greenes are currently second in the nation in online voting.

"Having a van would be life changing for us. I mean it would just make everything so much easier," Brenda said. "We're not asking for money. All we want is a vote."

Brenda said they are a very private family and initially she was scared to share Macie's story.

But she said the response has been overwhelming.

"By our surprise, I mean we were just overwhelmed by friends, family and then it just went from there," Brenda said.

There are 500 contestants and the association will take the top 25 vote getters and then a panel of judges will pick the winner.

You can vote here twice a day through May 10.
