LOGAN COUNTY, Okla. - A metro mom and dad are lucky to be alive after a mystery driver crashed into them then left the scene.
This was in Logan County late Saturday night at the intersection of Santa Fe and Charter Oak.
The family hopes the community will keep an eye out for a black truck with possible damage, to help officials track down the driver.
"Angry. Really angry," said Leia Smethurst.
Leia Smethurst and her husband Shane are upset, but thankful to be alive.
"You hear about these stories and you don't really realize how it affects someone until it happens to you," said Smethurst.
It was around 10:45 Saturday night.
The couple owns a photography business, having just left shooting a wedding at Chisholm Springs.
They were heading south on Santa Fe when the unthinkable happened.
They said a driver ran a stop sign.
"Out of my left hand side we saw a black truck speeding towards us and we thought they were going to stop, but they hit us," said Smethurst.
Her husband Shane said all he could hear was Leia screaming.
"It sounded like we were in a really rough roller coaster," said Shane Smethurst.
Luckily wedding guests were following close behind, catching a glimpse of the suspect's vehicle.
"They saw the pickup truck speed off and they saw us on our side in the middle of the road and that's when they came to help us," said Smethurst.
The couple said they are thankful the crash took place at this intersection because it was right next to a fire station, crews raced to the rescue.
"We could've died and they just kept going, “said Smethurst.
With unanswered questions, cuts and bruises and lots of damage to their work SUV, the couple is hoping the driver comes forward and turns themselves in.
"They may not get caught today, they may not get caught tomorrow but they're going to have to answer to it someday," said Smethurst.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol is working on this hit and run investigation.
