KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Kansas City man is being charged following the alleged beating of his son.

Court records obtained by WDAF show that officers were called to a home after a 5-year-old boy was injured.

Catherine Lambe claims her ex-husband, 29-year-old Misipope Taliga, beat their 5-year-old son with a vacuum cleaner.

Lambe says she was at church with her older son when she came home and found blood in the living room.

She told WDAF that when she found the 5-year-old boy, he was unconscious.

Taliga told police that the boy was hit by a car, but doctors and detectives say his injuries were consistent with abuse.

"He was hitting him with a vacuum and kicking him over and over again," Lambe said.

Lambe says the child is in a medical coma and suffers from brain damage and other injuries.

Taliga was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree domestic assault.
