GILBERT, Ariz. – A mother is not facing charges after she said she forgot that she left her baby in a shopping cart.

Miranda Asadoorian was working at her salon when a customer asked about the baby outside the door.

“I thought she was kind of joking or messing around and I came out here and there’s a freaking baby out here in the heat!” Asadoorian told KPNX.

It was about 100 degrees outside in the Arizona heat, and Asadoorian immediately grabbed the child and brought him inside the salon.

“Cute little baby, very quiet, didn’t cry at all, smiling,” she said.

Firefighters say the 2-month-old was healthy and didn’t suffer any injuries from the heat.

Police say the child’s mother returned to the parking lot about 40 minutes later. Authorities say she had two other small children with her at the time, was running a number of errands and forgot about the infant.

“I just don’t know how you forget a kid though,” Asadoorian told KPNX. “You’re carrying it in your stomach for nine months, you birth it, do all of that and then you forget your kid in a cart?”

“It was probably a crazy day for that mom,” said Katie McCulley. “I can’t imagine, it’s sad.”

Investigators say the mother will not face any charges.
