UTICA, Ohio – Prosecutors say a woman told her 4-year-old son he was dying of cancer to collect donations from family and friends.

Brian Waltz, assistant Licking County prosecutor, said, “This is a parents worst nightmare, that their child is sick, is ill, is deathly.”

That’s why the donations poured in for JJ Creno.

His mother shaved his head and even encouraged Nationwide Children’s Hospital to do unnecessary treatments on him.

Emily Creno pleaded no contest to felony charges of child endangerment and theft.

She said, “This is completely out of character for me. I am really remorseful. I am very sorry for everyone involved and pray the court gives me a second chance.”

She was sentenced to 18 months in prison and was ordered to pay $2,955 in restitution.

However, she is halfway through that sentence because she spent the last 239 days in jail.
