LOUISIANA – Authorities in Louisiana say a Winnsboro woman is facing attempted second-degree murder charges after she threw her 20-month-old child from a moving vehicle.

The Franklin Parish Sheriff’s office says 23-year-old Lasasha Allen was speeding on highway 8-65 in Winnsboro Sunday.

“She decided that she would take the child for a ride, placed the child in the passenger seat on the very edge of the vehicle, unrestrained. She reached over and opened the vehicle door, in which the child was basically slung out of the vehicle,” said Sheriff Kevin Cobb.

Authorities say Allen was trying to get the attention of the baby’s father.

“This is a horrific scenario, one that is beyond explanation,” says Cobb.

Sheriff Cobb says Allen didn’t take the child to the hospital for some time.

“She was telling stories that just weren’t adding up,” Cobb said.

Cobb adds that “She arranged it, basically staging this event to where it would look like an accident.””It was finally determined that this was more than an accident. This was an intentional act.”

The baby was eventually airlifted to LSU Shreveport Hospital, and is now recovering.

“We checked on the child this morning. The child is doing okay, thank the Lord.”

“My hope is once this is submitted to the district attorney, that justice moves quickly,” Cobb said.
