HOUSTON – A Texas community is in shock after a man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend several times before throwing her off a balcony, all in front of her four young children.

The victim died later at the hospital and the boyfriend is now in jail, being held without bond.

“I don’t understand how it happened,” said Bobby Courtney, Barrios’ father.

Felicia Courtney-Barrios was just 31-years-old and the mother of four when she was attacked by the man she loved.

“We heard her screaming, like horrifically, then all of a sudden, it stopped,” said Nicole Ballard.

On July 5, law enforcement sources say Felicia and boyfriend, Bardo Bustos, had a fight.

Police say he grabbed a tool from a kitchen drawer, stabbed her several times and threw her over the balcony of their second story apartment.

“I stopped him as long as I could,” said DJ Ballard, a resident in the complex.

As witnesses called 911 for help, Bustos continued the attack.

Sources say Bustos went downstairs, stomped on his girlfriend’s head and then tried to remove her teeth with pliers.

“The hate he had in his eyes, you should’ve seen what we saw,” said Ashli Schultz.

Felicia’s four young children witnessed the attack from inside the apartment.

“I hid the kids in my bathroom because I’m thinking, ‘Okay, once he finishes with her, he’s gonna come after the kids,” said Ballard.

“I honestly thought he was a really, really good person for her,” said Courtney.

Felicia’s father says he was blind-sided by her death.

He says he never knew Bustos to be aggressive or violent.

In fact, he was with the couple the afternoon of his daughter’s death.

“I’m out of tears. I’m out of rage. There’s no kind of justice that will bring my daughter back,” said Courtney.

Bustos was charged with aggravated assault after his girlfriend was taken to the hospital.

Since her death,  authorities say they plan to elevate the charge to murder.
