MIDWEST CITY, Okla. — We continue to follow the brutal death of a Midwest City woman. Lawmen found her body inside her home after someone called police worried about her young children playing in the street.

About 10:30 a.m. Wednesday someone called 911 about two small children alone outside, but police found much more once they got on scene.

“The babies come over, and they play on our chairs,” neighbor Bruce Martin said.

But Wednesday morning, they were playing in the street, not a parent in sight, and that's what prompted someone to call 911.

When police arrived at the home at 933 Locust Lane, they found a 2-year-old girl and her 4-year-old brother wearing only pajamas, but what the little boy told the officer lead them to a gruesome discovery inside the home.

“He asked where their parents were, and the little boy said, 'My mommy's asleep in the house,'” Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes said. “When we entered the house we found a female in her mid-twenties obviously deceased from blunt trauma, and at that point, we started our homicide investigation.”

Investigators worked into the evening gathering evidence from the scene, carrying out several boxes and dusting the front door and a vehicle for fingerprints.

Neighbors say the green car that sits in the driveway belonged to the victim.

It's the second one she's had since moving in, and neighbors tell us her first car was destroyed when someone set it on fire.

“I knew that she'd had her car Molotov cocktailed about seven months ago,” neighbor Ricky Burgess said. “It's like a fire bomb.”

But this time around, the attack happened inside, leaving two innocent children without their mother.

“Nobody deserves to lose their life for whatever reason it was,” Burgess said.

Police say they are following up on leads.

They confirm they have been called to the house before, but they're not releasing the victim's name until they can notify her family.

Those relatives reportedly live out of state.

The children are in protective custody.
