ADDINGTON, Okla. —
Multiple deaths and injuries occurred after a collision Friday evening in southwest Oklahoma.
Gerardi Almeida Marquez, 21, of Duncan, Oklahoma, was driving in a 2004 Chevrolet pickup southbound at 9:18 p.m. on U.S 81, 2 miles north of Addington in Jefferson County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.
Marquez’s vehicle went left of center struck a 2013 Toyota pickup. His vehicle caught on fire.
Marquez and two passengers Micaila L Scism, 18 of Comanche, Oklahoma, and Danny V Garcia, 21, of Duncan, Oklahoma, were pronounced dead by the medical examiner.
The driver of the second vehicle, Robert E Surginer, of Witchita Fallas, Texas, was transported by Eagle Med to OU Medical Center. He was admitted in serious condition with head, internal and leg injuries, troopers said.
A passenger, Kyla S Surginer, 19, was transported by ambulance to OU Medical Center.
She was eight months pregnant and the unborn child passed away due to injuries sustained in the collision.
Three children were passengers in the second vehicle involved in the crash. A 10-year-old boy was pronounced dead by the medical examiner.
The other two children, a 9-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl were transported by ambulance to Duncan Regional Hospital. The boy was admitted in fair condition with head and internal injuries. The girl was admitted in fair condition with internal injuries, troopers said.
The first vehicle was using their seatbelts. The driver of the second vehicle was not using his seatbelt. Seatbelts were in use by all others in the vehicle. Child restraints in the vehicle were not equipped or in use.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
