CUSHING,Okla.—The Keystone Pipeline Project is one step closer to becoming a reality.

Nebraska Gov. Dave Heinemen put his seal of approval on a plan to run a pipeline across his state.

Environmental groups oppose the pipeline, saying it puts an environmentally sensitive region at risk.

In a letter to the White House and the State Department, Gov. Heineman said it avoids the Sandhills region of his state.

The 1,700 mile Keystone XL Pipeline would run from Alberta, Canada to the Gulf of Mexico.
