OKLAHOMA CITY – We’re learning more about a bizarre series of events that led to the death of a Lexington woman.

On Oct. 8, officers rushed to the Plaza Inn after a woman called 911, saying she was being held against her will and was in fear for her life.

When police arrived and knocked on the door, 39-year-old Shane Rhea allegedly opened fire and shot two officers.

Sgt. Cody Kolesch and Sgt. Grant Brooks were both treated and released from the hospital.

Officials say Sgt. Kolesch was shot in the arm and was hit in the chest. Fortunately, the bullet became lodged in his bulletproof vest so he was not injured from that shot.

Sgt. Brooks was shot in the arm as well. That bullet also hit an artery.

However, he has also been treated and released.

Another man, 57-year-old Randell Williams, was also shot in the back while he was inside the room.

Other officers followed Rhea, who was using 30-year-old Samantha Monden as a human shield.

After a confrontation on the I-35 Service Rd., authorities say Monden was shot and killed by Rhea.

The officer then shot Rhea.

Now, the Oklahoma State Medical Examine’s Office has released its findings into Monden’s death.

According to the medical examiner, Monden was killed when she was shot at close range in the head.

She also suffered a gunshot wound to her right forearm, but that did not play a role in her death.

Her death was ruled a homicide.

Rhea is being charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, four counts of shooting with intent to kill, assault and battery with a deadly weapon and pointing a firearm.
