OKLAHOMA COUNTY, Okla. - A memorial was finally held at the grave of an Oklahoma Sheriff killed in the line of duty more than 100 years ago.

George Washington Garrison is the only Oklahoma County Sheriff to be killed in the line of duty.

He died in 1908.

Garrison's tombstone disappeared from Fairlawn Cemetery decades ago, leaving him in an unmarked grave.

But, he was remembered again Thursday, as if he had just lost his life.

A memorial service was held for the late sheriff as a new tombstone was placed over his grave.

A note from someone who allegedly knew the sheriff long ago was read at the ceremony.

"I've known a great many sheriffs and, among them all, have never met one that has the moral fiber of George W. Garrison," the note read.

The memorial was held with full honors.
