GONZALES, Texas – When you drive through your neighborhood, you may find a sign or two in yards advertising a garage sale or a service.

But one Texas town says some residents need to put more personal information on their lawn.

“I think, ballpark, 24 people around town are registered sex offenders,” Allen Barnes, the city manager of Gonzales, told FOX 29.

Last week, the city passed an ordinance that would alert neighbors to a sex offender in the neighborhood.

A sign must be placed in the yard and read, “A registered sex offender lives here.”

However, officials say the ordinance only applies to new offenders or sex offenders who change their address.
