OKLAHOMA CITY – Summer is just around the corner, and city leaders are already preparing for the athletes who will be heading to the Oklahoma River.

Last week, the new Riversport Rapids course was being filled with 8 million gallons of water.

The water comes from Lake Draper and will be drained and refilled once every two to three years.

The MAPS 3 project is designed by the same team that built the white water center for the London Olympics.

The rapids will open the first weekend in May.
