KEARNS, Utah (KSTU) – Authorities say a newborn is in critical condition after being found in a garbage can early Tuesday morning.

According to KSTU, Det. Jared Richardson said the infant was born over the weekend.

Police allege her mother put the child in the garbage around 6 a.m. on Tuesday.

Officials say the newborn was in a neighbor’s garbage can for about an hour but she was not fed for the last three days.

The woman’s neighbors say they heard a noise coming from the garbage and discovered the girl.

At last check, she was listed in critical condition.

However, doctors say her condition is worsening.

Officials say the mother is being evaluated at a hospital.

Police have not confirmed any information about the child’s father at this time.
