OKLAHOMA CITY – If you love organization, you may have your fingers crossed for the latest rumor about development near Penn Square Mall.

Although nothing is confirmed, rumors have been circulating that ‘The Container Store’ is planning to open its latest location on the northwest corner of Penn Square Mall, near Pennsylvania Ave.

“I think it’s great. I spend a lot of money there,” Jan Blatnik, who lives in Denver, said.

The store focuses on selling items to keep your home clean, organized and clutter-free.

“My husband likes to keep his garage organized, so they have these things you can hang on the wall to keep your tools on. If you want bike racks, they have that,” said Kathy Friedman.

If the rumors are true, it will be 23,000-square-feet of retail space as a standalone store, just north of The Cheesecake Factory.

“We’ve met with them on numerous occasions and they’d definitely be a great asset to our community. We don’t make announcements for any retailers, but it’s somebody we’ve targeted and reached out to,” Tammy Fate, Manager of Retail Development & Recruitment for OKC Greater Chamber of Commerce, said.

While several other major retailers have called Oklahoma City home, it is not easy to get national stores to the Sooner State.

“Is it a demographic issue? Is it a density, average household income? What is the thing they’re looking for, and I feel like with some of the things going on here with Tinker Air Force Base and Boeing and GE, it really helps sell that,” Fate said.
The Container Store released a statement to us:

“While we hope to have a store in Oklahoma City someday soon, we have no immediate plan finalized at this time. We’ll let you know as soon as we do! We value locations with a high density of our customer base, which is comprised of time- and space-starved customers who value our unique collection of products and high level of customer service. When searching for those A+ locations, we also aim to open our stores amongst other synergistic retailers that share the same target customer, in order to provide a one-stop shopping destination. Thanks so much for being a fan of The Container Store!”
