NORMAN, Okla. – While enjoying Labor Day, many families may notice a few extra police officers on patrol.
The Norman Police Department says they will complete a series of high-visibility responsible driving enforcement projects on Labor Day in memory of a little girl.
In 2013, 8-year-old Cadence Gordon was killed in a car accident with a drunk driver in Norman on Labor Day.
“It is our hope that Cadence’s story illustrates the real-life consequences of driving a vehicle while impaired,” said Lt. Jeff Robertson. “Cadence was a beautiful, vibrant, fun-loving, and intelligent 8-year-old at the time of the crash. She was killed way too soon by someone who chose to drive impaired on a busy holiday.”
Last year, nine people died in car accidents on Labor Day weekend with six of those fatalities being caused by a driver who was under the influence.
