Update: Man accused of murder in Norman; victim shot in head

Update: A man who was previously regarded as a person of interest in a suspicious death in Norman is now accused of murder.

Davante Hunter

Davante Hunter, 27, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder, Friday afternoon.

Hunter is accused of killing 63-year-old James Keith Hawkins. He will be booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center, according to a Norman Police Department news release.

Norman police went to a home in the 3000 block of Pheasant Run Road just after 10 a.m. Thursday to do a welfare check. They found Hawkins dead with a gunshot wound to his head inside the home.

Hunter was named a person of interest during the police investigation.

Police located Hunter and took him into custody, Friday morning.

NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) – Norman police are investigating a suspicious death and have named a person of interest.

Police responded to a home in the 3000 block of Pheasant Run just after 10:00 a.m. Thursday on a welfare check.

Once there officers located an adult male who was deceased.

At this time we don’t know how long he had been deceased or how he died, but based on evidence at the scene, investigators are treating it as suspicious.

As a result of this investigation, they identified 27-year old Davante Hunter as a person of interest.
