NORMAN, Okla. – After Friday’s shooting at a Connecticut elementary school, Oklahoma schools are increasing security and reviewing their safety procedures in an effort to prevent a tragedy like that here.
Norman schools have not received any threats but as a precaution, Norman police have increased patrols at area schools.
Monday Norman Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Joe Siano sent this statement to parents:
For the last couple of years, the Norman Police Department has had at least one Officer assigned to visit each of our schools on a regular basis during the school year.
On Monday, the Norman Police Department will have an increased presence patrolling in and around our schools. We want to be clear that no threat has been received for any of our schools. The increased patrol is just a continuation of the partnership between the Norman Public Schools and the Norman Police Department in making the safety of our students and staff a top priority.
