OKLAHOMA CITY - A heartbreaking situation for a nursing home resident turned into a criminal investigation. A nurse's aide is charged with felony neglect by a caretaker.

Kendra Leann Scott worked at the Warr Acres Nursing Center near N.W. 63rd and MacArthur.

There's now a warrant out for Scott's arrest.

The Attorney General's office started looking into the allegations against Scott earlier this year after another nurse's aide found a victim soaked in urine and soiled in her own bed.

Court documents show Scott was solely responsible for the victim's care when the alleged neglect happened.

Prosecutors say Scott exposed the victim to "potential infection from prolonged exposure to feces and urine."

Advocates for nursing home residents say this kind of thing happens all too often.

"It`s not right to leave a resident in their feces and urine for a shift. No way, no how is that right. It`s not right," said  Wes Bledsoe, who has been an advocate for nursing home residents for more than a decade. "That is neglect, absolutely, but what caused that neglect?"

"From what's in that complaint, the nurse aide is the scapegoat in this situation," Bledsoe said.

He argues the nursing home owners should be held accountable, especially if the facility was understaffed, like many in Oklahoma.

"Many times, they're assigned a hall by themselves," Bledsoe said. "Somebody doesn't show up, and now they're not only working their hall, they're working somebody else's hall."

Under state law, during the shift time this alleged crime happened, there has to be one direct-care employee for every seven residents.

Warr Acres Nursing Center refused to answer questions about their numbers. They only said they're still doing their own investigation.

If convicted, Scott faces up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
