OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics was out Monday making a bust they hope will help in the fight against cocaine use in Oklahoma. The director of the bureau says the bust though small on the scale is huge when it comes to battling drugs especially on the Northeastern side of Oklahoma City.OBN Direct Darrell Weaver says, “This community does not deserve this and we won't stand for it.”

There were no guns, no lights and no warnings as narcotics agents converged on this convenience store at Northeast 24th St. and N. Martin Luther King Ave. Inside they found pipes used to smoke crack cocaine being sold as pens.Undercover agents were able to buy several of the pens, along with a Brillo pad. Authorities say the two together are used to smoke crack.Weaver says, “Why in the world would you sell this pen and this pad? It's for one reason and one reason only, to smoke crack cocaine.”Representative Mike Shelton was on hand. He authored legislation, now law, making the pens illegal for sale in our state. Shelton says, “They may not be selling the drug, but they are very involved in the drug business.”Pastor J.A. Reed was passing by as the bust was happening. He's overjoyed to see something being done to fight the drug problem in this area of town. Reed says, “I'm grateful to see it because we have so much of this happening.”Weaver says, “I hope it sends a message that we are not going to tolerate this.”Those working in the store were not the employees who had previously sold to agents. However, OBN does expect to file charges against at least two employees and possibly the owner.Shelton says, “It's wrong. They should have more respect for the community and for the families they are hurting.”Rep. Shelton says he's working on future legislation to increase penalties for those caught selling this type of paraphernalia.
