Clinton police, OSBI investigating after 8-year-old dies from apparent gunshot wound

UPDATE: On Monday, the medical examiner identified the victim as 8-year-old Fernando Gomora. 

CLINTON, Okla. – Authorities are investigating after a child was shot and killed over the weekend in Clinton.

On Saturday, at around 3:30 p.m., Clinton police responded to a trouble unknown call near 14th St. and Dunn Ave.

When police arrived, they found an 8-year-old boy in a bedroom with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation was called to assist with the incident.

Clinton police say while the investigation is still in progress, “it appears that this may have been a tragic accident.”

The boy’s name is not being released at this time pending results from the medical examiner and notification for next of kin.
