LAWTON, Okla. – A heavily traveled interstate will be shut down for hours as crews repair a broken gas line.
Around 11 a.m. on Monday, authorities learned that crews from an energy company were drilling holes for a new post and hit a gas line.
The gas line broke just south of the visitor center, next to the Comanche Nation Casino on the east side of I-44.
The gas line is supposed to be a main line and authorities were forced to divert all traffic from I-44 and Interstate Dr.
Traffic will be diverted from I-44 at both Gore Blvd. and Lee Blvd. exits, in both northbound and southbound directions.
If you are heading to Lawton on I-44, officials say you should go east from I-44 to Flowermound Rd. and then either north or south to Gore and Lee and back on I-44.
The interstate will be shut down for about six hours, and is expected to open around 7 p.m. or 7:30 p.m.
