OKLAHOMA CITY - An Oklahoma City man is accused of kicking his girlfriend's dog to death.

It happened over the weekend at an apartment complex near Britton Rd. and Rockwell Ave.

The suspect now faces possible charges of animal cruelty.

The suspect lived with his girlfriend and her dog.

That girlfriend first called police to report the deadly abuse.

She claims after she left to go to the store the boyfriend lost his cool and kicked her dog to death.

"I think it's crazy," neighbor Haniyyah Abdul-Latif said.

Abdul-Latif lives next door.

She said she heard the dog being abused but didn't think to investigate.

"I heard the dog screaming and crying like something was being done to it," Abdul-Latif said. "It was really loud but I didn't think anything of it because I didn't want to pry."

Police arrested 25-year-old Levi Raper for allegedly killing the dog.

According to the police report, the suspect told police the "dog defecated on the floor" so the man tried "to rub the dog's nose in the feces."

When the dog "snapped" at him, the man admitted he "kicked the dog a couple of times."

"You just can't treat an animal that way," Oklahoma City police Master Sgt. Gary Knight said.

Oklahoma City police said even if the dog hadn't died, the suspect could still have been charged with a crime.

"The man kicked the dog more than once," Knight said. "It was an intentional act. Even if the dog were injured, that's animal cruelty. Unfortunately, this dog passed away and could not be saved."

Given the violent way the dog died, neighbors are glad the suspect is accused of animal cruelty.

"I think that's what he needs," Abdul-Latif said. "I think that's terrible. You shouldn't do that."

During the arrest, police claim the suspect repeatedly hit his head on the inside of the police car and threatened to kill himself in the county jail.
