LAWTON, Okla. – It’s a crime no one expected.

Workers at Highland Cemetery in Lawton have spent days dealing with a mess left by vandals.

In all, officials say vandals toppled 97 headstones in the cemetery.

According to KSWO, officials believe that two or three people pushed the headstones over between Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

Right now, cemetery workers are attempting to contact family members of those whose markers were targeted.

City leaders are also working to find out how much it will cost to put the headstones upright, and they are not sure where they will get the money.
