OKLAHOMA CITY – While many men are scrambling to make plans for Valentine’s Day, an organization was making sure single mothers would also be celebrated on the day of love.

The Oklahoma City Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 123 asked residents to nominate single mothers across the city.

“We wanted to give a special treat to those who hold our communities together and often don’t get appreciated like they should – single mothers,” said Mark Nelson, vice president of organization.

Three single mothers were selected to receive a dozen red roses from Tony Floss Flowers, Tacori earrings from Diamonds Direct and a gift certificate for dinner at Picasso Cafe.

“I’ve got kids and I’ve always done what I had to do to take care of them because that’s what I’m supposed to do. I’ve tried to set a good example by showing them how important it is to help others. I don’t feel like I’ve done anything extraordinary,” said Amy Williams, on the recipients.
