OKLAHOMA CITY - An Oklahoma City mother of two was arrested on two counts of child abuse Monday.
Residents at Amberwood Apartments, near N.W. 39th and Ann Arbor, were disturbed to hear about the allegations.
"It really hurts," said Kristian Redbird, a resident. "It bothers me a little bit."
"It just really breaks my heart to hear something like that is happening in our neighborhood," said Sonia Hoffman.
Jennifer Tinsley, 32, is accused of neglecting her two children, a 7-year-old boy and 9-year-old girl.
According to a police report, the kids called a relative “crying, saying they were hungry and their mother was passed out asleep.”
Officers went to investigate and quickly took note of the living conditions.
"It was what we often times refer to as a house of squalor," said MSgt. Gary Knight. "There was trash everywhere. There were cockroaches running around everywhere. There was nothing fit to eat inside the home."
The report police also stated the children “did not appear to have been bathed in quite some time” and “their clothes were dirty and had stains.”
The kids allegedly told officers that “their mother doesn’t ever make them food” and she “drinks Kentucky Deluxe and will either drink five bottles or one, big bottle every day.”
"That's just lazy. That's just ridiculous," Redbird said. "I would have been able to feed the kids if they were hungry, if I would have known that was going on.”
Police said the children also told them their mother had hurt them numerous times.
"I just don't see how any parent can treat their child like that, their little ones," Redbird said.
After police took the kids out of the home, they took them to McDonald's to feed them.
From what we saw, Tinsley does not have a criminal past.
