OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden has announced the name of their newest addition.

Last month, a western lowland gorilla was born at the Great EscApe.

Today, zoo officials announced the baby gorilla’s name is Rubi, which means precious gem.

Rubi was born to 29-year-old Emily and father Tongo.

Emily was born at the zoo in 1985 and will celebrate her 30th birthday at the end of April.

Judging from the pictures, it looks like mother and daughter are doing great!

Western lowland gorillas are endangered in part due to destruction of their habitat and illegal hunting.
