TULSA, Okla. – It’s a crime that no child should ever have to witness.

In 2015, two little girls watched as their mother was murdered.

“I can still remember hearing the oldest one scream and cry when she realized her mom wasn’t coming home,” Deanna Steward, the girls’ aunt, told FOX 23.

Later that same year, the girls’ father was killed.

“Just looking at their eyes, even when they’re trying to be happy and you that there’s a part, a void, that I can’t fill, grandmother can’t fill,” Steward said.

It’s been two years since the murders, and the children are now in elementary school.

Recently, a teacher noticed some behavioral changes in the youngest child and reached out to the Tulsa Police Department to see what to do.

Immediately, officers and members of the community organized a donation drive to help give the girls a special Christmas to remember.

“They know that someone cares enough to think about them and what they went through,” Steward said.
