CALUMET, Okla. – An Oklahoma man was arrested after allegedly fondling a teenage boy.

Investigators with the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office arrested 62-year-old Virgil Putnam after they learned he had allegedly fondled a 15-year-old boy in his home.

Authorities say the teenager called the sheriff’s office after the alleged assault.

Sheriff’s deputies found the victim walking aimlessly down State Highway 66.

“When my deputies picked up the young boy not only was he still intoxicated, but he also appeared to be in a desperate state of mind,” said Sheriff Randall Edwards, with the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim claimed that Putnam had given him enough alcohol to get him intoxicated.

When he was drunk, the victim told officers that Putnam allegedly groped his genitals.

“The only good thing about this arrest is that we’ve been able to take a predator out of circulation, but we still have a victim that’s scarred for the rest of his life,” said Edwards.

On Tuesday, Putnam gave investigators a full confession and was booked on charges of committing lewd or indecent acts upon a child.
