Oklahoma man arrested after allegedly kidnapping ex-wife, held her captive for three days

TULSA, Okla. – A man who allegedly kidnapped his ex-wife at gunpoint and held her captive for three days was arrested.

Police say 51-year-old Steven Shannon padlocked his ex-wife in a room for three days, strangled her until she was unconscious multiple times and pistol-whipped her.

According to the Tulsa World, Shannon forced the woman from her home and into his home.

She was held captive from December 9 until Tuesday afternoon when she was able to escape.

“The victim said she was padlocked inside of Shannon’s home during this time,” said Tulsa Police Sgt. Clay Asbill.

Authorities say the woman started a fire in the bathroom, which allowed her to escape to a nearby business to call police.

Shannon was located by officers and arrested.

At the time of his arrest, investigators say he possessed a loaded handgun that had been reported stolen from Wagoner County.

According to police, Shannon also threatened to kill the woman’s daughter.

Shannon was taken to the Tulsa County jail on several complaints, including kidnapping and domestic assault and battery by strangulation.
