OKLAHOMA CITY - An argument over religion takes a violent turn.
Oklahoma City police say the dispute between the two men, one a Muslim and one a Christian, erupted into a brawl involving a knife and a baseball bat.
The victim says it started because the suspect, Jimmy Stepney, claimed it was okay to cut off people's heads.
Those comments quickly escalated into a heated religious debate and eventually an assault and battery.
"He said that he thinks they should be cutting white people's heads off," said Diane Range.
"You don't cut people's heads off because of what you want them to believe," said the victim Jerome Bullock.
Bullock says when Stepney started quoting scripture from the Quran he asked the suspect to leave his house.
"I just said get your stuff and leave the house, no harm no foul," said Bullock.
The suspect had been staying at Bullock's home as a guest.
After leaving Saturday, he came back on Monday armed with a knife.
"He said you're going to die tonight and he hit me in the face," said Bullock.
"The fight was on. I hit him with my bat," said the victim's mother. "I was hitting him and hitting him."
Police of course were called and quickly arrested the suspect just a few blocks away.
Bullock and his family admit they don't know much about the Islamic faith, but they do know what the suspect said is not the word of God.
"I don't think he's a Muslim," said Bullock. "I think he was just a terrorist."
"That Quran is driving him out of his head," said Range. "How you gonna say they should cut people's heads off?"
The victim suffered only minor injuries.
As for the suspect, he remains behind bars, charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery.
