MIDWEST CITY, Okla. - A Midwest City father says he is desperate to get his two sons back.
Hashim Mahmoud says the boys went for a visitation with their biological mom and never came home.
He says 10-year-old Hiram Mahmoud and 9-year-old Jahhim Mahmoud haven’t been home since Halloween.
“They only left here with two pairs of clothes and their toothbrush,” said Hashim Mahmoud.
The boys have lived with Mahmoud and his wife since they were little.
He says their mother hasn't been a part of their lives until recently, when he agreed to let them visit her.
However, she didn't bring them home after the second visitation.
“I called her up and said, 'What time are you going to bring the kids?' And she says, straight out, said, 'I’m not bringing them back,' and hung up,” said Mahmoud.
Dominic Smith left the apartment where she’d been staying with the boys, and Mahmoud has not been able to find them.
The boys haven’t been in school for three months.
“I mean, it’s just too much just for the kids to even be going through that kind of environment,” Mahmoud said.
And authorities say this is not the first time Smith has done this.
In 2010, officers with the Edmond Police Department and the FBI began searching for her after she took her daughter from school while the child was in foster care.
Fortunately, they found Smith and the little girl.
However, it was not an easy task.
“She was, in effect, off the grid. That means she had no permanent residency, no vehicle,” said Chief Bob Ricks, with the Edmond Police Department, at a press conference in 2010.
Several years later, this family is going through the same thing.
Mahmoud is hoping someone out there can help him find his sons.
“They got everything right here. I mean, they’re happy right here. I mean, I don’t even know what kind of environment they’re in,” he said.
Mahmoud and Smith had never gone to court to decide custody of the boys.
Mahmoud has since obtained an emergency order of temporary sole custody of the boys.
Smith did not show up for the hearing, so Mahmoud is looking to file a contempt of court charge against her.
Back in 2010, she received a five-year deferred sentence for child endangerment.
