OWASSO, Okla. – An Oklahoma police officer is facing charges following a traffic stop in June.

OSBI agents began investigating Owasso police officer Michael Denton after allegations stemming from a traffic stop.

Investigators say Denton allegedly hit Cody Matthews numerous times with the barrel of a shotgun while Matthews was unable to resist.

Authorities say they interviewed other officers who helped arrest Matthews and determined that Denton’s actions broke the law.

Denton is now charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon and reckless conduct with a firearm.
