NORMAN, Okla. – Oklahoma is known for a few things: country music, winds sweeping down the Plains and sports.

CBS Sports decided to find out which school had the best season in college sports.

Researchers ranked every FBS football school in football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball. It also included two “wild card” sports to come up with the Best in College Sports award.

The “wild card” sports ranged from men’s lacrosse, men’s ice hockey, men’s soccer, men’s volleyball, men’s gymnastics, wrestling, women’s lacrosse, women’s ice hockey, women’s soccer, women’s volleyball or women’s gymnastics.

Researchers weighed football and men’s basketball more than the other sports.

After everything was said and done, the University of Oklahoma came out on top.

“OU claimed the honor with a 2015 Big 12 football title, a trip to the College Football Playoff, a 2016 Final Four berth in basketball as well as national championships in softball and women’s gymnastics. Along the way, Buddy Hield became the Naismith Player of the Year for basketball coach Lon Kruger, and Bob Stoops took back his mantle as one of the top college football coaches in the country,” the report reads.

Oklahoma edged out North Carolina, Notre Dame, Stanford and Ohio State.
