CANADIAN COUNTY, Okla. – A couple from New Mexico was arrested following a simple traffic stop by a Canadian County deputy.

Deputies say the Nissan was following too closely and changing lanes unsafely.

Officials say the deputy learned that 51-year-old Victor Orozco and 54-year-old Vickie Barela were traveling in a rental car from their home in Albuquerque to Oklahoma City.

Authorities soon learned that there was a federal warrant for Orozco.

While taking Orozco into custody, he reportedly admitted that there was ‘weed’ in the car.

Deputies say he also said, “There’s a whole bunch, and it’s in the trunk.”

When officials looked in the trunk, they found 92 pounds of marijuana.

“There’s no telling how many loads of marijuana these two have transported across the country. Hopefully this will be their last for a long time,” said Chris West, Canadian County Undersheriff.

Orozco and Barela were both taken into custody on trafficking marijuana charges.
