OKLAHOMA CITY - Second grade students at Shidler Elementary School just found out they will be learning on a new high-tech writing tool.

"Everyone in the classroom is going to get their own Magna Doodle," Ashley DeSilva, a second grade teacher for Shidler Elementary School, said.

It was an announcement DeSilva didn't know she would be able to make.

"I'm excited. I'm really excited. I was nervous, but I was hoping, I was like, ‘Please let it get funded.’ Yeah, so to find out it's funded, I'm excited for the kids. They are going to be ecstatic when they see them," DeSilva said.

The Magna Doodle, which helps children with their handwriting, costs almost $600 for a set of 25.

It was one of 35 projects posted by Oklahoma City teachers on a crowd funding site.

As of Sunday night, all of the projects were completely funded.

“My mother-in-law was a former teacher, so I think we all know what a valuable education can do for a child and helping support our teachers, administrators on the front lines, educating the most important people in our society is something we just do feel strong about," Chrissy McLaughlin, with The McLaughlin Family Foundation, said.

Their family foundation pitched in with a generous donation and the donations were matched by the Bill and Melinda Gates fund, totally around $16,000.

"Being able to support our teachers and that funneling down to the students and the community is something that we all need to take a moment to think about, for sure," McLaughlin said.

For DeSilva, the donations are key to keeping her second graders engaged in learning.

"Feel like I need to help these kids and willing to donate the money is just, I can't even put into words. It's just indescribable," she said.
