NORMAN, Okla. - This week's special Pay It 4ward recipient is being honored for giving her friend a second chance at life.
For Audra Plusquellec, every minute matters.
"I'm just more grateful for things," she said.
About a year and a half ago, this vivacious dancer and cheerleader fell critically ill.
Her mom, Kirsten McGonigle, says more than one dozen doctors told her that her daughter would not survive.
Fortunately, Audra survived.
However, during the process, she needed skin grafts from her legs, she lost her adrenal glands, her spleen and both kidneys.
She says that is when friendship really took over.
"Patti is....she's just an incredible spirit, she's an incredible soul." she said. "The wonderful thing about Patti is she probably has about 50 friends who identify her as their best friend. She makes us all feel that way."
Patti Willis Rogers went above and beyond those two months while Audra was hospitalized.
Recently, she did even more.
"She was there the day the doctor came in and said her kidneys aren't working, her kidneys have failed, she's going to need a kidney transplant."
Patti immediately volunteered to help her friend.
This past August, Patti donated her kidney to Audra. She even paid thousands of dollars for her part of the surgery out of her own pocket.
Now, Kirsten and Audra want to give to give back.
"Thank you almost seems absurd."
So Kirsten thought out of the box and nominated Patti for a very special Pay it 4Ward.
KFOR and Spirit Mortgage presented Kirsten with $1,000 to give to Patti.
