It was a ‘phenomenal’ turnout for Bob Moore Auto Group and Oklahoma Blood Institute’s Saturday blood drive.
This is the 15th year that the two have teamed up to raise awareness and tap one of Oklahoma’s most precious resources.
Folks lined up to donate blood and get a chance to drive away with a brand new car.
Donor Harry Ledgerwood says it’s about more than a chance to win.
“It’s life for death for some people,” says Ledgerwood. “(Donating) is a small sacrifice.”
She is living proof of the difference blood donors make and is awaiting a match for a marrow transplant that will help her lead a healthy life.
In addition to giving blood, donors can register to see if they’re a possible match for Kamryn.
Oklahoma Blood Institute is the ninth largest, non-profit blood center in America, providing every drop of blood needed by patients in some 158 medical facilities across Oklahoma.
“That’s what it’s all about here in Oklahoma,” says Melissa Bonniksen, Mobile Supervisor for OBI. “Oklahomans taking care of Oklahomans.”
Bob Moore chopper 4 helped kick off the 15th annual Bob Moore blood drive at several area Bob Moore dealerships including Bob Moore Ford and Bob Moore Cadillac.
“We are so proud to partner with the Oklahoma Blood Institute because at the Bob Moore Auto Group we believe in giving back to the community. We have been a part of this important blood drive for 15 years and we know it helps saves lives here in Oklahoma,” said Chad Ashley, the general manager of Bob Moore Cadillac in Edmond.
“Blood donors provide a critical role from helping premature babies and burn victims as well as Oklahoman’s in cancer recovery and those suffering from traumatic injuries,” said Leslie Gamble, the community relations director for the Oklahoma Blood Institute. “We also can’t thank the Bob Moore Auto Group enough for their enthusiastic support of this incredible, lifesaving event,” added Gamble.
Car buyers and their families not only took time out to donate blood and check out cars, they also had the opportunity to see the NewsChannel 4 helicopter, Bob Moore Chopper 4, that landed outside the main entrance of Bob Moore Ford.
One lucky person who donates blood at selected Bob Moore Auto Group dealerships across Oklahoma will drive away with that 2015 KIA Soul.
Blood drives continue until 5 p.m. Saturday at the following locations:
- Bob Moore Cadillac, west side of Broadway Extension, south of Memorial Rd.
- Bob Moore Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of OKC, Northwest Expressway, west of Rockwell Ave.
- Bob Moore Ford, I-35 and Southeast 89 St.
Odds of winning that Kia Soul are expected to be about one in 1,000, depending on how many participate.
