CHICKASHA, Okla. - A 48-year-old Chickasha man is behind bars after investigators discovered his alleged disturbing cyber relationship with a 14-year-old girl.

One Chickasha police officer called the exchange “just plain nasty.”

The girl’s father found more than 1500 Facebook messages and more than 300 emails between Vernon Quillin and his daughter.

He even allegedly sent “selfies”.

Major Shanon McClain said, “That’s pretty substantial. It shows a person that’s intent on having some form of relationship with this minor.”

Quillin is behind bars all because of the girl's father.

After reading some of the graphic messages he told officers, “He wanted to go to his house, confront him and beat him, but instead he called police before doing something stupid.”

Investigators were just as disturbed by what they read, saying “The message I read was nasty, shocking the conscience” and, “Many of the messages I read were what a reasonable person would believe to be 'grooming'. In that I mean that Mr. Quillin is grooming a 14-year-old to eventually have sex with him.”

But in the interrogation room Quillin told investigators “I thought she was 17”, soon to be 18.

Officials say they knew he was lying because of this message:

“I didn’t know how mature you was in spite of your age baby, you don’t act like you are just 14, your love is that of a mature young woman not playing kids games of lyes and breaking my heart.”

The 14-year-old told police she had her bags packed. Her plans were to run away and to live with Mr. Quillin.

“Teenagers often lack the ability to discern what’s in their own best interest, what’s safe and what’s not,” says Major McClain. “They use that ploy to garner their trust and make them understand that they know them better than anyone, their friends, and their parents. This is their soul mate.”

To investigators it seemed like the messages never ended. Each one signed, "Vernon loves (juvenile’s name), always and forever."

Quillin has been charged with one count of lewd and indecent proposals to a minor.

Chickasha police are still investigating whether or not the two acted on any of those proposals.
