TENNESSEE – A Tennessee father faces child abuse charges after police say he forced his teenage son to drink alcohol until he passed out, as punishment.

35-year-old Mark Allen Hughes is charged with aggravated child abuse, neglect, and contributing to the delinquency of a child.

Police were called to a home Saturday night and found his 15-year-old son unresponsive.

Witnesses say Hughes forced the teen to play a drinking game to teach him a lesson after he caught the boy with alcohol.

“We try to teach the youth, you know… don’t be drinking, don’t be doing drugs. And here you’ve got a parent who is contributing to the problem,” said Chief Eddie Byrum with Tennessee Police Department.

Police say Hughes was also drunk and began fighting with people in the home who tried to make him stop.

The teen was flown to the hospital for treatment. He was later released and is said to be doing fine.
