VALLEJO, Calif. – A mother has died nearly two months after being injured in a fire that claimed the life of her 5-year-old son.
According to the Vallejo Police Department, officers and firefighters were called to a home on May 22 after neighbors reported seeing flames coming from the home.
When first responders arrived, the home was engulfed in flames.
As firefighters made their way inside, they found the body of 5-year-old Dayleon Seil-Shuemake.
Neighbors told the LA Times that they tried to go into the home and rescue the boy, but the fire was too intense. Officials believe he was sleeping when the fire started.
The boy’s mother, 45-year-old Lametricias Seilflood, was severely burned in the blaze.
Authorities arrested the boy’s father, 53-year-old Darrylone Shuemake Sr., for murder, attempted murder and arson.
Investigators believe Shuemake intentionally set the home on fire, trapping his family inside.
On July 20, officials say Seil-Shuemake died from her injuries.
